THREE PHASES OF FIREFLY RECOVERY
The Three Phases of Firefly Recovery is a beneficial plan to ubiquitously help the group of deaf-mute people with the primary purpose of to both physically and mentally give support to the children and young adults with hearing disabilities. Three different stages will be carried out, each aimed towards different age groups and needs. To proceed with the three phases, not only the members of the Firefly Charity will be involved, but the community will also be part of it: including students, parents, and friends.
PHASE ONE :Ages 0 ~ 6 | 阶段一 ：0 ~ 6 岁
Children with congenital hearing loss or obtained it through hereditary, not only experience abandonment from their parents and have a bitter childhood but come across many difficulties during their growth process. Between the age of 0 – 6, these children have almost 100% of chance to recover from deaf-mute; however, as they are older, the likelihood decreases. Therefore, it is exceedingly important to receive specialty treatment when they are infantile. Currently, in China, there are around 20,000 – 30,000 children each year with hearing disabilities; the government provides aids for the first-tier cities for a cochlear implant. Nevertheless, only a small proportion of those people can receive funding. Almost none of the rest can afford the costly treatment, which means many of them have suffered from fiscal concerns.
Although nothing can be done to change the past now, many things can be done in the present to make up the childhood that had forgone. To begin with, members from the Firefly Charity will organize trips to the Xiao Ju Deng Deaf-Mute Children’s Recovery Centre, welcoming students and parents to attend. The purpose of the trips is not only to accompany the children but hearing new voices can evoke their perception of sound, making their recovery process quicker. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, many children suffer from fiscal concerns. The Firefly Charity will host events in school to raise money for their treatments and the artificial cochlear hearing aid. On the other hand, to raise awareness for the group of people with hearing disabilities; making more people in the society both noticing and contributing towards them.
Besides trips, fundraising events, and raise awareness, the Firefly Charity will set up a new project in which families can give financial support to a specific child. This project is comparable with adopting a child; however, the child will stay at the Xiao Ju Deng Deaf-Mute Children’s Recovery Centre. Throughout having this child, the family will not only provide financial support to them, but they will bond strong relationships with them. Furthermore, help them through their despondent childhood. Our Charity believes that building up close relationships when they are young, it will be more readily accepted and can last for a longer time.
PHASE TWO :Ages 6 ~ 18 | 阶段二 ：6 ~ 18 岁
In order to allow the children with hearing disabilities to have a conventional future, they need to have the most basic education required to find an occupation. This issue is difficult to resolve because many schools will not want children with hearing problems, which means many of them will not be able to receive an education. Furthermore, even if the schools do accept them, there will be bullying cases due to their difference from other non-disabled students. Not only the hearing-impaired children have a painful childhood, but with instances of bullying, will result in less chance of recovery. The need of education for these children is as urgent as recovering, to ensure they have a brightened future.
To work out a solution to the lack of education for deaf-mute children is to use the fundraising money and give them support on education. Teachers can achieve this at the Xiao Ju Deng Deaf-Mute Children’s Recovery Centre, such as they can guide the children or invite a private teacher to come and teach daily. Moreover, during our trips to the Centre, we can teach them basic Chinese, English, and Math to help them acknowledge the importance of education by teaching them the most basic knowledge for their age. As part of the Firefly Charity, we can provide resources for the children to learn, practice, and play with when teaching them. This means that children with hearing loss can explicitly use the assets. For example, “VoiceBook” is a technology product that aims to improve the communication status of hearing-impaired groups through the internet and artificial intelligence, and to build a service for the hearing impaired group.
In comparison with the current school-teaching method, there can be a developed method for teaching children with hearing impaired, such as using specific technology like “VoiceBook” and other artificial intelligence technology. Furthermore, after learning some basic knowledge, there can be cooperation made between local schools in China and the Xiao Ju Deng Deaf-Mute Children’s Recovery Centre. This can be done by providing a chance for the deaf-mute children to go to an actual school for education when they have recovered. Other opportunities for learning can be made by inviting charitable people to come to the Centre and teach.
PHASE THREE :Ages 18+ | 阶段三：18+岁
Not many of the people who have hearing disabilities recover due to several reasons. Including those who did not receive medical treatments, which makes it extremely difficult for them to find an occupation. Furthermore, many of them cannot find a regular job, which means many companies will not accept them. Without the most basic income, they will not be able to have the most rudimentary necessities to live. However, the people with the tag of hearing-impaired can be strongly affected to find a simple job.
To provide occupations for people with hearing loss, the Firefly Charity will design a Deaf-mute Disabled Employment Platform for finding jobs that can be used for people with hearing disabilities. This platform will connect the hearing-disabled people with employers around all fields. Not only this, the people will fill out a form with their necessary information, the amount of education they have received, and the area of occupation they want to join in. On the other hand, employers will have their company’s information on the platform and what kind of employees they would wish to including their job descriptions. Additionally, the connection between the group of people with hearing loss and employers will make the deaf-mute people feel that they have a place in the society with the feeling that they are needed and wanted by other people. This can massively help their mental healthiness since it can make them more confident as a person and that they are welcomed by others.
Other than the Deaf-mute Disabled Employment Platform, there will be professional skills training for specific occupations, since each job requires different kinds of skills. This can be done through going to short courses that aim mainly at a specified field as the skills needed for different occupation varies. This can benefit the group of deaf-mute people as they can not only understand their jobs better but enhance their understanding of their career while not letting the fact that they have hearing disabilities affect them.
