FIREFLY CHARITY

Problem

         Children with congenital hearing loss or obtained it through hereditary, not only experience abandonment from their parents and have a bitter childhood but come across many difficulties during their growth process. Between the age of 0 – 6, these children have almost 100% of chance to recover from deaf-mute; however, as they are older, the likelihood decreases. Therefore, it is exceedingly important to receive specialty treatment when they are infantile. Currently, in China, there are around 20,000 – 30,000 children each year with hearing disabilities; the government provides aids for the first-tier cities for a cochlear implant. Nevertheless, only a small proportion of those people can receive funding. Almost none of the rest can afford the costly treatment, which means many of them have suffered from fiscal concerns.

      先天性聋哑或遗传性聋哑儿童，不仅经历了父母的遗弃和痛苦的童年，还在成长的过程中饱经苦难和歧视。在0-6岁时，这些儿童几乎有100%的机会康复；然而，随着年龄的增长，康复的可能性会不断降低。因此，在此阶段接受特殊治疗是至关重要的。目前，中国每年约有2-3万名听力残疾儿童；虽然政府为一线城市提供人工耳蜗植入辅助设备，但只有很小的一部分人可以获得资金支持，而剩下的人面对昂贵的治疗费用只能望而兴叹。

 

Solution

         Although nothing can be done to change the past now, many things can be done in the present to make up the childhood that had forgone. To begin with, members from the Firefly Charity will organize trips to the Xiao Ju Deng Deaf-Mute Children’s Recovery Centre, welcoming students and parents to attend. The purpose of the trips is not only to accompany the children but hearing new voices can evoke their perception of sound, making their recovery process quicker. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, many children suffer from fiscal concerns. The Firefly Charity will host events in school to raise money for their treatments and the artificial cochlear hearing aid. On the other hand, to raise awareness for the group of people with hearing disabilities; making more people in the society both noticing and contributing towards them. 

 

解决方案

         虽然无法改变过去，但我们现在可以做很多事情来弥补那些被遗忘童年。首先，萤火虫慈善组织的成员将前往小桔灯聋哑儿童康复中心，并在此欢迎学生和家长的加入。我们组织去康复中心的目的不仅仅是给孩子们带来快乐，最主要的还是加速他们的康复过程，因为不同频率的声音可以唤起他们对声音的感知。此外，针对儿童以及其家庭财政问题的负担，萤火虫慈善组织将在学校举办活动，一方面为他们的治疗和人工耳蜗的植入筹集资金，另一方面提高人们对听力障碍人群的认知，让更多的人关注他们并，给予一份爱心。

 

Next

         Besides trips, fundraising events, and raise awareness, the Firefly Charity will set up a new project in which families can give financial support to a specific child. This project is comparable with adopting a child; however, the child will stay at the Xiao Ju Deng Deaf-Mute Children’s Recovery Centre. Throughout having this child, the family will not only provide financial support to them, but they will bond strong relationships with them. Furthermore, help them through their despondent childhood. Our Charity believes that building up close relationships when they are young, it will be more readily accepted and can last for a longer time. 

 

之后

         除了访问小桔灯聋哑儿童康复中心、筹款活动和提高认识之外，萤火虫慈善机构还将设立一个新项目，让自愿者家庭能够为特定的孩子提供经济支持。这个项目相当于收养一个孩子，但是，孩子将留在小桔灯聋哑儿童康复中心。在这个孩子的成长过程中，家庭不仅会为他们提供经济支持，还会与他们建立牢固的关系，帮助他们度过坎坷的童年。我们的慈善机构相信，在他们小的时候建立起来的亲密关系会更容易被接受并能持续更长的时间。
